Management team

BSC Energie brings together three experienced partners with deep roots in agriculture and a successful history in PV project development. Together, we have nearly 40 years of PV experience. During this time, we have successfully implemented about 1 GW of solar PV projects in various countries and hold many of these projects in our own portfolio.

Alfred Behrens

... comes from a farming family with a long tradition and is a pioneer of the solar energy revolution in Germany. Shortly after the turn of the millennium, he built roof systems on farms. His oldest PV installation has been producing green electricity for almost 20 years. Since 2010, he has specialized in the development and implementation of ground-mounted solar parks. With his first ground-mounted project, he already demonstrated  that he recognized the large potential of  PV systems. On 160 ha, the solar park was Germany’s largest at the time of its grid connection. Since then, he has realized many successful projects in various countries throughout the world. Alfred attaches particular importance to the ecologically positive effects of his developments and their symbiosis with the surrounding agriculture. Alfred’s diverse education culminated in degrees as an engineer and as a lawyer.

Dr. Steffen David

... has over a decade of experience in the solar industry and is the financial expert on the team. His solar career was born after the triple disaster of an earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown in Japan in 2011. Living in Tokyo at the time, he was actively involved in energy transition in Japan. His newly established company was one of the first project developers to develop, locally finance, and build solar ground-mounted PV in Japan using German experience and technology. He realized some very ambitious and innovative projects during that time, including the largest floating solar farm in the world at that time. In addition to his solar activities, Steffen works with a private equity fund and provides strategic support to growth companies as an advisory board member. Steffen has previously been successful with start-ups in Japan after starting his professional career at McKinsey & Company, where he worked in Munich and then in Tokyo. Steffen holds a doctorate from the University of Duisburg-Essen and a degree in engineering and management from the University of Karlsruhe (TH).

Thomas Hager

... started in the solar field in 2007 when he carried out his first urban land use planning. Since then, he has focused on renewable energy. It is very important to him that solar power plants are approved in close cooperation with municipalities, citizens, and agriculture. The fact that he comes from a farming background and still lives on his family farm is certainly both a motivation and a boost. Thomas has devoted himself to photovoltaics and open land development for almost 15 years, first in his own company, then as an authorized signatory for a large company specializing in citizen energy and now as CEO of BSC Energie. Previously, he worked in the automotive industry for more than 10 years. Thomas holds a degree in cultural studies from Passau University and an MBA from WHU/Kellogg.
